THE TEMPLE – TIFERETH ISRAEL | EXPANSION AND RENOVATION
Beachwood, Ohio

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

AMHigley served as Construction Manager-At-Risk for the expansion and renovation of Temple - Tifereth Israel, originally constructed in 1969. The five-phased project involves a one-story, religious school expansion to the west of the existing building, with a new early childhood education wing and eight classrooms for children in the fourth through seventh grades.  The remodeling features a new entrance, 60-FT wide by a 35-FT tall, domed chapel, and adjacent lobby to the east of the existing building, attached through an atrium expansion.  The glass-enclosed Center for Judaic Art, Religion and Culture displays portions of its nationally respected collection of 1,900 examples of Judaic art, including 15 stained-glass windows.  Further, the expansion and renovation scope of work consisted of new administrative offices, upgraded sprinkler system, interior finishes, kitchen, infrastructure, and data and communication systems throughout the existing building.

PROJECT ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Self-performed carpentry for the $130,000, 300-FT covered walkaway into the Temple entrance and numerous interior and exterior temporary walls and enclosures
  • Maintained original completion date, despite drawings that did not coincide with the existing conditions and removal of unforeseen soil conditions and a directly buried, 13,000 V electric line
  • Mock-up of brick matching from the existing atrium to the new expansion constructed prior to installation to ensure Owner satisfaction with the design
  • Energy-efficient measures include the installation of a radiant floor heating system
  • Construction completed accident-free
